Susan "Susie" Meeks CPM-TN
Susie Meeks has always loved babies, even as a young girl. While attending her first birth as a Doula in 1982, she realized her calling to be involved in the support of birthing women. Since then she has attended hundreds of births as a Doula and a Midwife. In 1992, she became a member of the Tennessee Midwives Association, and was inspired to pursue the art of midwifery. She completed an intensive midwifery training/academic program in 1994, at the Tennessee Birthplace School of Midwifery in Gallatin, TN. During this time she worked as an apprentice/assistant with two busy homebirth midwifes in Nashville.
She was officially registered by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) in 1995, certified by NARM as a CPM in 2000, and received state licensure as a CPM-TN in 2002. Susie also maintains certification in neonatal resuscitation.
Susie grew up in northwest Detroit, married Kenny Meeks in 1976, and they moved to TN. in 1986. Together they have raised five awesome children and enjoy their life in a beautiful valley west of Franklin.
“I am passionate about my faith in God, my family, my friends, my ladies and their babies, Notre Dame Football, and Elvis!” Susie Meeks CPM-TN
Patsy George CD (CBI)
Patsy began attending home births in her late teens, and eventually gave birth to 4 of her 6 children at home. Married to a musician, she and her family spent 5 years on the road full time as he sang for their supper. She and her family settled in Franklin, TN in 2011 when her husband accepted the position of Chief Musician at Parish Presbyterian Church.
Being settled has allowed Patsy to more fully pursue her interest and calling in birth work. With Susie as her mentor and guide, she certified as a Labor Doula and founded Franklin Doula Services in 2013. Patsy later trained as a midwifery assistant at the Farm in Summertown, TN and has had additional training at Better Birth University in Orem, UT. Pursuing continuing education is fun for Patsy, so she is often studying or scheming about which conference/workshop to attend next. She is delighted and blessed to be working with Susie to provide quality, compassionate care to mothers and babies in the area. Her daughters (and future daughters-in-law) inspire her continued growth in the skills, knowledge, and wisdom needed to keep birth safe and physiologically normal. In addition to birth work, Patsy enjoys reading great books aloud to her family, listening to her children and their Daddy make music together, and sharing a meal with friends.
